Tunnbrödsrulle

Thin flatbread wrap filled with mashed potatoes, hot dog, ketchup, mustard, crispy onions, and topped with shrimp salad or relish, a Swedish style.

The Tunnbrödsrulle is Sweden’s ultimate late-night hot dog indulgence, famously built inside a soft, thin flatbread called tunnbröd. It typically features a grilled or boiled hot dog (or two), mashed potatoes, a scoop of shrimp salad (räksallad), crispy fried onions, mustard, ketchup, and sometimes pickled cucumbers—all wrapped burrito-style. Originating in Stockholm, it became a popular fast food item in the 1960s and is now a staple of Swedish street kiosks and grillkorv stands. The flavor mashup is intentionally over-the-top, mixing salty, creamy, tangy, and sweet in every bite. It’s quirky, filling, and completely Swedish. Ask any Swede: it’s chaos—and it works.
A home-friendly version of this hot dog style.
